Clinic - Rough Water/Surfing Skill: Intermediate+

Minimum 4 students. 3-hour Class
INSTRUCTOR: Chris Celentano
This class is designed for intermediate and seasoned paddlers wishing to spread their wings and learn to paddle safely year round and/or in larger and tougher bodies of water. This course is not for beginners, recreational or inflatable kayaks.
PREREQUISITE EXPERIENCE: Students must have taken an SCKC Clinic, or equivalent, be an advanced-intermediate kayaker, be familiar and comfortable with bracing, boat control skills, wet exits, and rescue. Must be snug in your cockpit. Kayak must have bulkheads. All attendees will be vetted to ensure these qualifications are met.
We will be taking our skills onto rough water areas of Lake Coeur d'Alene to work on open water safety and rescue, touring, and rough water boat handling; up to and including surfing if the conditions allow. Students should be prepared to paddle about 10 miles and GET WET. Be sure to read Clinic Requirements below.
LOGISTICS:
WHEN: July 24, 2025: Time: 5-~8pm
WHERE: Near Tubbs Hill Trailhead on the east side of Tubbs Hill. Launching from the 11st Marina Lagoon next to the old pump house. It's a bit of a walk to the put in.
COST: $75 per paddler
BRING:CLOTHES FOR IMMERSION! Drysuit or Drytop/Pants or wetsuit with paddle jacket, and any thermal insulation you think you might want for spending time in and out of the water in late July.. YOU WILL GET WET, possibly right away!
Your kayak, paddle, sprayskirt, bilge pump, sponge, paddle float, webbing if you have it, complete change of clothes, sun hat, sunglasses and sunscreen, on-water snacks & water.
Minimum age 15, accompanied by adult.
This clinic is for touring and sea kayaks.

Must be a current paid SCKC member & have signed the yearly waiver.
CANCELLATION: Subject to cancellation due to weather, smoke, or lack of participants - Need 4 students. Check before coming! :-) Full refund, less processing fees, up to 3 days before. No refund after that.

Parking at Tubbs Hill Trailhead off 10th St on the east side of Tubbs Hill. Launching from the 11st Marina Lagoon. Follow the trail out of the parking lot towards the lake then slight left towards the old pump house.
